Art Of The Title

Looking at the website 'Art Of The Title' helped me gain an insight into the making of a title sequence. I began to looked at various title sequences, such as 'Se7en' and 'Scott Pilgrim vs the World'.

Music for our Thriller

This is an email from mobygratis.com telling us we can use their music in our school project. They also request to see the project after we had finished to see how their music had an effect on our work.

Helping out with other students project

As a student outside of our group helped get a warehouse for our project, we helped the other group with ideas and camera work. We thought this would be better for both of our groups because it gives us experience with working with people outside of my group, and it gave me some practice on designing sets, costumes and camera work. Here are some pictures of them filming:

Filming

On Friday the 14th, my group and I, along with another group in our media class, went to see a warehouse where we may be filming. The warehouse was quite full, but we thought it may add the effect of normality to the kidnapping, and imply the kidnapper isn't very experienced. The warehouse has a set of stairs that we could use to great effect, and as there is an upstairs to the warehouse, crain shots would be easier to do. Here are some pictures of the warehouse:

Sabotage -1936

Sabotage is a film directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1936. The extract i have seen of this film was of a small boy holding a package on a bus, but the package is a bomb. The audience know that the package is a bomb and the time the bomb will explode because of a note received earlier in the film saying 'Don't forget, the birds will sing at 1.45'. The fact that the audience is aware that the boy must drop off the package before 1.45, but the boy doesn't know what the package contains makes this scene very interesting. The way Hitchcock builds the suspense and tension with the music slowly increasing in speed, close ups on the boys face, and shots of clocks, making the viewer aware of the time is very clever, and has been copied by many directors since.

Different Camera Shots and Angles

We used this video as practice with using a camera, and to get used to working with different shots.

Film locations

There will only be a few locations in our thriller opening.

The first will be an abanndonned warehouse. In this warehouse there will be nothing but a chair, and the main character who has been kidnapped tied to this chair. The room will be very dark to add tension. There will only be one light turned on which will be above the main character's head.

Our second location will be outside of a house. This will be in a flashback of the previous night whilst the main character is remembering leaving his friends house to start their journey on their night out.

The next location will again be during a flashback and will be on a journey to a party, this may be at a bus stop or train station.

Our final location will be at a party, the flashback will be patchy and in many different rooms of the party, the setting will not be very well litten to make the audience suspicious of some characters.

Name of our film

The name of our film is 'The Betrayal'. We thought this name was suitable for our film because it makes the audience suspicious. When the main character has been kidnapped he tries to work out the events of the night before with a patchy memory. As the film is called 'The Betrayal' the audience is suspicious to who betrayed the main character and may be watching the friends of the main character very carefully. This will add to the intensty of the film and because the title is a clue to the plot, which intrigues the viewer, but does not give away the full story.

Graphic Matches

The factory is a graphic match to the cigarette, as they look very similar

Target Audience

Our thriller could be classed as 2 sub genres, it could either be described as a crime thriller or a paranoid thriller. There are elements of both of these sub genres in our thriller, it could be classed as a crime thriller because of the kidnapping or a paranoid thriller because the character who has been kidnapped suspects his friends are behind it. We feel that because of these elements the film would be targetted at young adults, from around the ages of 18 to 25. We feel that this audience should be targetted because the film may contain violence, which may make it too old for some viewers, and will have a lot of exciting and thrilling elements which may not be of interest to the older generation.
